In August 2023, 10 International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) members participated in World Youth Day (WYD) in Lisbon, Portugal. The experience was transformative, marked by a sense of unity and purpose among hundreds of thousands of young Catholics worldwide. The week-long celebration began with an inspiring Opening Mass at Terreiro do Paço, led by the Patriarch of Lisbon. Our delegation engaged in thought-provoking sessions and workshops, deepening our understanding of faith and our role in fostering a just and compassionate world. A significant highlight was Pope Francis’ arrival in Lisbon, greeted with joy by a cheering crowd. During the Way of the Cross procession, participants reflected on their struggles and hopes, connecting with the enduring message of love and redemption. The culmination at Parque Tejo, with the Vigil and Final Mass presided over by Pope Francis under a starry sky, provided a moment of profound communion and a testament to the unifying power of faith.
