
The International Young Catholic Students Africa (JECI Afrique) successfully organized a thought provoking webinar titled “Women in Social Commitment: Challenges and Hopes for Young People in Africa” on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM WAT. The event brought together leaders and members from various YCS-JEC National Movements for an engaging discussion on critical issues affecting women in society.

The session commenced with an opening prayer led by the International Secretary General, Roshan Lobo, at exactly 2:00 PM WAT. This was followed by a warm welcome from the moderator, Edomobi Mariaconsolata Chinasa, the IYCS Africa Coordinator, who introduced the participants and distinguished guest speakers.
The webinar featured three esteemed speakers who addressed significant aspects of women’s roles in society:
- Mr. Simon Pierre Lamah, a Public Health Physician, spoke on “The Woman and New Technologies in Christian Commitment.” He emphasized the importance of social media and digital platforms in modern Christian engagement.
- Mrs. Nam Gisele Annie discussed “The Woman and Christian Education,” encouraging young women to draw inspiration from notable biblical figures who can serve as role models in their daily lives.
- Miss Chioma Cynthia Nnagbo elaborated on “The Woman and Social Commitment: Christian Women Facing Social and Political Challenges in Africa Between Tradition and Modernity.” She underscored the need for young women to embrace leadership roles, seek mentorship, and make informed career choices.
The interactive session allowed participants to engage with the speakers through thought-provoking questions and contributions, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas.
As the session concluded, the moderator and Coordinator of IYCS Africa Mrs. Marie Lucie Camara expressed gratitude to all participants and speakers for their valuable contributions. Outgoing Pan-African Coordinator, Ms. Prisca Koffi, extended her best wishes to the incoming coordinators, urging members to support and pray for their success.
International Secretary General Mr. Roshan Melwyn Lobo shared words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and commitment to empowering young women in Africa. The webinar concluded with a closing prayer led by Alphonsine Dagui (JEC Chad) at 4:15 PM WAT, followed by a group photograph to mark the successful event.
This webinar was a remarkable initiative, reinforcing IYCS Africa’s dedication to fostering dialogue, mentorship, and leadership among young women in Africa.
