The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) actively participated in the 58th Session of the Human Rights Council held at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva alongside delegates from the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS). The conference provided an opportunity to engage in discussions on pressing human rights issues and examine the responses of member states regarding human rights violations and their official positions.

This event was a significant platform for social action movements like IYCS, reinforcing their commitment to upholding the principles of human dignity and care for the common home. Representing  IYCS Secretary General Mr. Roshan Melwyn Lobo, Participated at the Human Rights Council and engaged with key stakeholders in the field of human rights advocacy.

Ahead of the conference, a preparatory study session was organized for participants to better understand the issues at hand.

During this time, Mr. Roshan Melwyn Lobo had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ruki Fernando, a human rights activist from Sri Lanka and former  Coordinator of IYCS Asia. Mr. Fernando expressed his willingness to contribute to strengthening IYCS’s advocacy efforts and supporting the training of YCS leaders in human rights and social justice.

This participation underscores IYCS’s ongoing commitment to promoting human rights, social justice, and the empowerment of young people in global advocacy efforts.
