The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS-JECI) successfully hosted the 12th Pan-African Council in Cotonou, Benin, focusing on “Empowering African Youth for Climate Resilience and Peace.”
The International Secretariat of IYCS was represented by Roshan Melwyn Lobo, Secretary General, and Mr. Innocent Odongo, Outgoing Secretary General, who actively participated in the event. The gathering brought together delegates from 20 National Movements of YCS-JEC, providing a platform for meaningful discussions on climate resilience, youth leadership, and peacebuilding.
A key milestone of the Council was the election of two women as Pan-African Coordinators for 2025–2028, underscoring the Movement’s commitment to gender-inclusive leadership. Mrs. Marie Lucie Camara (Guinea) and Ms. Mariaconsolata Chinasa Edomobi (Nigeria) were elected to lead the Pan-African Coordination, paving the way for greater representation and inclusivity.
The event also featured interactive workshops, panel discussions, and strategic planning sessions aimed at equipping young leaders with the knowledge and skills to address pressing global challenges. The Council expressed gratitude to the outgoing Coordinators, Mr. Benson and Ms. Prisca, for their dedicated service and contributions to strengthening the Movement.
The 12th Pan-African Council has set a strong foundation for the future of IYCS-JECI in Africa, with renewed commitments to climate action, peace, and youth empowerment.
