On the 16th of November 2019, IYCS Outgoing Secretary General, Richard Francis, APEH addressed Member States at the General Policy Debate of the 40th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.
In the Speech, IYCS called on UNESCO and its member states to put more effort in promoting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), in order to empower learners to take informed decisions and to act responsibly and to put the right policies in place to stop the continuous destruction of our planet and our future.
The speech also made a strong call for meaningful youth engagement “We don’t only want to be a point on your agenda; we want to sit at the table when decisions regarding our world today and the future we will inherit are being taken”.
