2nd International Reunion of YCS Former Members – Rome 2019
February 28, 2019 - March 3, 2019
In February 2011, under the leadership of YCS International Secretariat, some 30 former YCSers (parliamentarians, international officials, clerics, academics, Ministers and also members of civil society…) from the five continents exchanged in Rome on the theme of global governance. This first meeting nourished and aroused the hope of a more or less regular framework of exchange between these different personalities who are at the service of humanity at various levels while witnessing their faith in a secularised world dominated by selfishness.
The richness of the exchanges, the answers and the encouragement they have brought to each other led to the resolution to see the experience renewed. The latter is also intended through its results to contribute to the Church efforts for the construction of a world of peace, justice and rights. The meeting of the former YCSers aims to create a space for high-level exchange and reflections on the situation on the global governance of our world from a perspective of Christian faith, but also on the basis of concrete experiences in the social and professional commitments. The challenges of our world today are huge and to overcome them, “professional competence and moral coherence are necessary for both.
In this international context, we are faced with an alternative that we cannot and must not ignore – [improve or destroy] -, each initiative, small or large, individual or collective, indicates the sure path of “generous and dignified creativity, which reveals the best of the human being”
The challenge for the Gospel today may relate to the question: how to limit or even eliminate the abuses on the populations, especially those in developing countries? Thus, the imperative and our Christian faith command us to
awaken consciences. Through its philosophy, the YCS has always wanted to be with its members, actors of the Church in this sense. Today more than ever, YCS wants “the task of international agencies and civil society organizations to raise awareness and cooperate critically, also using legitimate pressure mechanisms, so that each government fulfils its own and non-transferable duty […], without selling itself to illegitimate local or international interests.
The former members reunion will critically look at these and many others while creating of dialogue, networking, and corporation. Scheduled to hold in Rome Italy from 28 Feb – 3rd March 2019 under the theme “The Gospel to the challenges of international responsibility”, the meeting 40 YCS former members from around.
